ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Location: In person (Notre-Dame, NB)

 

The Opportunity:

 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our accounting department as an Assistant Controller. As the Assistant Controller, you will work closely with the Director of Finance and Controller, assisting them in overseeing the financial operations of the company. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth, as you will be trained to become a future Controller while actively contributing to the accounting process and helping implement and maintain our new ERP system.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist the Director of Finance and Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Accountants specializing in cost accounting and financial accounting, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of cost accounting systems and procedures.
  • Assist in analyzing costs, variances, and profitability by project.
  • Help implement the new ERP system, ensuring a smooth transition and effective utilization of its features.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities, providing valuable insights and analysis.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and provide recommendations to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and review controls to ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support to management for risk management initiatives.
  • Receive training and guidance to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become a future Controller within the organization.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with exposure to various accounting functions.
  • Experience with implementing or working with ERP systems is a plus.
  • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and French is required.
